A 2021 New York Story:
Gunther Pohl's Lifelong Work,
Preserved Forever.

A former Chief Librarian of the New York Public Library spent fifty years compiling a unique and essential resource.

We published it online for the first time in 2021.

Gunther E. Pohl, F.G.B.S.

A dedicated and experienced researcher, Gunther Pohl gave much of his spare time to develop a resource that would open up significant new avenues for the research of others.

He gathered biographical data of over 500,000 New Yorkers from thousands of books, journals, periodicals, and monographs that were previously not indexed.

His project, which began on 3×5-inch slips of paper, has now been fully converted to an electronic and accessible form and is freely accessible to researchers everywhere on our website.

Donations of any size will help ensure that we can digitize, preserve, and publish more records online to help researchers like you find their New York ancestors.

A 2021 New York Story:
Family History Fundamentals Day

In September, we offered a free day of four fundamental educational sessions, open to everyone, everywhere.

We understand that research in the Empire State can be a challenge. A core part of our mission is to meet you wherever you are in your family history journey and provide the guidance you need to make more discoveries.

Hundreds joined us throughout September and October for another installment of our New York State Family History Conference, which took place entirely online and featured sessions for all skill levels.

During the conference, we offered an entire day of completely free, live programming aimed at the most fundamental subjects for New York State family history research. Thousands tuned in and learned about topics ranging from “Your First Steps After Taking a DNA Test” to “10 Essentials for New York Family History Research.”

We were thrilled to reach so many people and share our expertise and guidance. Your donation can help us make a similar impact in 2022!
