New York Researcher

The New York Researcher is the NYG&B’s quarterly members’ magazine. Highlights include informative articles on New York genealogy, access to new records, and a letter from the NYG&B President.

This archive contains every issue published from 1990 (when it was entitled The NYG&B Newsletter) to the most recent issue—each is text searchable, providing a compendium of tips for New York research.

The feature articles of the New York Researcher have made it a particularly useful research tool for New York genealogists. These articles cover topics such as

  • "How to" articles on New York genealogical research, both statewide and for particular counties or cities, religious or ethnic groups, or time periods
  • Listings of newly available records, both from the NYG&B and across the state
  • Descriptions of the holdings in repositories and organizations from across New York
  • Profiles of NYG&B members and volunteers
  • NYG&B updates and activities, including information about research tours and upcoming programs

Once known as The NYG&B Newsletter, the New York Researcher was founded by Henry Hoff and Harry Macy in 1990. Earlier issues included:

  • Lists of accounts of New York families "hidden" in multi-family works, manuscript collections, and periodicals
  • Articles about New York families published in other periodicals
  • Book Notes: information on published works by or about New York families
  • NYG&B news and history
