Please join Kalyn Loewer, NYG&B's Digital Collections Manager; Anna Gardner, NYG&B's Digitize New York Coordinator; and Duane Weed, Town of Niles Historian for a look at the new Town of Niles, Cayuga County collection. The speakers will discuss the local partnership with the Town of Niles that was integral to this Digitize New York preservation effort, share how the materials were digitized, and then go in-depth on how to locate and view the digital images on the NYG&B’s Online Collections Catalog.

 


 

Duane Weed is member of New Hope Mills and Pure Functional Foods family businesses and is a project manager and IT administrator. He began working at age 10 shoveling grain bins in the 1823 New Hope grist mill. Duane developed a passion for music and history at an early age and uses these to develop and share immersive storytelling. He became Historian for the Town of Niles in early 2025 and enjoys sharing forgotten history and how it changed the course of world events.

In 2013 Duane founded Historic Innovations LLC as an alternative restoration entity for Historic New Hope Mills and for tackling difficult projects. Duane was homeschooled and graduated from Thompson Education of Pennsylvania. He is married and the father of three children.
