This collection was made accessible online through the NYG&B's Digitize New York initiative.
This collection contains approximately 675 marriage and death notices abstracted from nineteenth-century newspapers, vital records, and tombstone inscriptions in the Southern Tier and Central regions of New York State. Transcribed by Lester Card in 1930 and preserved on microfilm in 1941, the compilation captures life-cycle events during a period when civil registration in New York was limited or inconsistent. Entries typically include names, dates, and places of marriage or death, and may provide additional details. As a substitute for missing or incomplete vital records, this collection offers valuable documentation of individuals and families living in these regions between 1819 and 1865.
