The Albany Diocesan Cemetery Records Collection consists of digitized interment and lot cards documenting burials in Catholic cemeteries across New York’s Capital Region. With coverage dating back to the mid-19th century, these records capture generations of individuals and families. Digitized in partnership with the Albany Diocesan Cemeteries Association, these fully searchable records can help identify burial locations, plot ownership, and family connections within cemetery grounds, providing valuable detail for tracing individual and relationships within the Albany Diocese. Records for deceased persons with dates of death in 1975 or earlier are available.

While the collection is fully searchable, the waypoint links under each cemetery may be used to browse all cards in each set. Interment cards are in alphabetical order by last name and lot cards are organized first by section and then by number.

About Interment Cards and Lot Cards
Interment cards, or burial cards, are cemetery records created to document individual burials. They typically record the name of the deceased, date of death and/or interment, age at death, and place of burial, including cemetery name, section, and plot number. In some cases, they may also include additional information such as next of kin, religion, or cause of death. These records are commonly maintained in index card or ledger formats and may be either handwritten or typed. Lot cards, or plot cards, correspond to specific cemetery sections and burial plots. Information commonly found on lot cards include the original purchaser of the lot, date of purchase, plot size and cost, and all associated burials within the plot, including names, dates of death, dates of interment, and ages at death.

About Albany Diocesan Cemeteries
Albany Diocesan Cemeteries oversees the management of 23 Catholic cemeteries located in Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady, Saratoga and Greene counties. Many of these cemeteries were inspired by the Victorian notion that cemeteries should be idealized natural landscapes emulating park-like settings with winding roads and panoramic vistas. All were established to accommodate an influx of Irish, Italian and German immigrants in the 19th and early 20th century. These immigrants were predominately Catholic and tens of thousands of these early citizens are buried in consecrated grounds managed by Albany Diocesan Cemeteries.
