Please join the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society (NYG&B) for the Annual Fall Benefit Luncheon. This year’s event will feature Russell Shorto discussing his new book, Taking Manhattan: The Extraordinary Events That Created New York and Shaped America, a thrilling narrative of how New York came to be.
Proceeds from this year’s event will support New Netherland Settlers, a groundbreaking, multiyear project to develop detailed, peer-reviewed sketches of all the people residing in New Netherland prior to 1664.
Mr. Shorto is the author of eight books of narrative history, including the international bestseller The Island at the Center of the World. He is the director of the New Amsterdam Project at The New York Historical and Senior Scholar at the New Netherland Institute. In 2009 he was awarded a knighthood from the Dutch government for his work in increasing historical understanding between the Netherlands and the United States.
As part of their luncheon tickets, registrants are invited back to the NYG&B office immediately following the luncheon for a booking signing with Mr. Shorto and a complimentary copy of his book.
