Since 1869, the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society has been preserving historical records that are useful to family history researchers investigating people from New York State.

Sherwood Account Journals Account Books, Unlocked Tompkins County Image Browse View description
  The first book includes handwritten records of 150 patient names and fees/expenditures of Dr. Amaziah Church Sherwood's, the second book is Orlando Sherwood's account ledger, and the third book is the latter's medical journal. Shipwrecked Passengers Bound for the Americas, 1817 - 1875 Immigration All NY Counties Text View description
This collection was researched and transcribed by NYG&B Fellow Frank A. Biebel in 2013. He states that the Act of 1819 "made no provision for the inevitable shipwreck(s), including survivors.” This lead to there being “no comprehensive list” of the names of the victims of the shipwrecks, leaving most of them unknown. Society of Colonial Wars in the State of New York Colonial All NY Counties Indexed View description
Background on the Collection These records represent over 25 years worth of applications, beginning with the 1892 incorporation of the society. Applications document pertinent information from the colonial period, such as birth, immigration, and military service records. Sterling Town Records Census, Town Records, Unlocked Cayuga County Image Browse View description

As a revolutionary town, Sterling has a rich history and offers a wealth of materials to researchers.
