Team NYG&B at the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon
What is the NYG&B?
The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society (NYG&B) preserves, documents, and shares family history and stories from across New York State. We engage with genealogists, biographers, historians, and organizations to establish the broader contexts of New York’s past. We actively foster connections between New York’s past and present.
As one of the oldest genealogical organizations in the United States, we serve members both nationally and internationally through our extensive records and resources; educational programming; and landmark publications, including our scholarly journal the NYG&B Record, quarterly issues of the New York Researcher, and the award-winning New York Family History Research Guide and Gazetteer. Our comprehensive records and collections encompass genealogical and historical materials from all 62 counties in New York State.
How do I join Team NYG&B?
To join Team NYG&B, you must submit an application for consideration. The deadline to submit an application is April 30, 2026. Applicants will be notified if they have been accepted to be part of Team NYG&B beginning in May 2026.
Where will the money I raise go?
Funds raised will support the NYG&B's statewide Digitize New York initiative to preserve at-risk historical records and make them freely available online.
Many record holders, including historical societies, churches, town hall offices, and others hold at-risk documents they are unable to digitize themselves. Through Digitize New York, organizations can either submit their records for preservation at one of the NYG&B’s Digitization Centers or request a digitization kit that empowers them to preserve and upload records at their own sites—at no cost to participating organizations. Is there a fundraising minimum?
Yes. All runners are required to raise $4,000 dollars.
Are there any requirements to be part of Team NYG&B?
Runners accepted to Team NYG&B must meet a fundraising minimum of $4,000. Team NYG&B runners must also pay a race registration fee to participate in the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon ($255.00 for New York Road Runner members; $315.00 for non-members). The NYG&B is not responsible for team members' race registration fee.
How do I fundraise and accept donations for Team NYG&B?
All runners will receive a personalized online donation page that they can share with their networks. If they receive a check instead of an online donation, instructions for donations made by checks can be found in your fundraising toolkit
Are donations tax-deductible?
Yes! All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
The NYG&B will issue IRS-compliant charitable tax acknowledgements for all donations made to the NYG&B. Please do not provide any kind of tax acknowledgement to your donors.
How do I know if my company will provide a matching gift?
Many companies match employees’ charitable contributions. Matching gifts will be counted toward your fundraising goal. The NYG&B encourages you to check with your employer to see if your company has a matching gift program and ask your donors if their employers match gifts.
It is your responsibility to contact the matching company to ensure the matching gift funds are received by the NYG&B before October 15, 2026.
If the NYG&B does not receive the matching gift funds prior to October 15 2026, the match cannot count toward your fundraising minimum of $4,000.
More information about how to find out if your employer has a matching gift program is available in your fundraising toolkit.
