Hi!
Hi there! I am looking information for Andrew Purcell, who I have been told by family was born in Albany, NY around 1820. I have hit a brick a wall in able to tracing him before 1853. His parents both came from Ireland (Tipperary Ireland). He died 23 October 1899 in Altoona, Blair, Pennsylvania. He married Mary Ann O'Brien (from Cambria County, PA) on 12 October 1858 at Summit, Butler, Pennsylvania.
Where and when did she come from Ireland
I am hoping to find some additional information regarding a geneaology tree profile in the Preston Family printed in the NYG&B Record (July 1922). Within the Preston family tree on page 213, there is an entry for Mary Jane Halstead (127). It states she married her second husband, Jacob Cooper, on May 14, 1841 in Elkhart, Indiana. Jacob Cooper was born on March 15, 1820 in Utica, New York to Stephen and Betsey (Noble) Cooper of Utica, New York. The source states "Family Letters."
Carlos Whitney (b. ~1848, in VT?), his parents: William W. Whitney and Sarah Marie Eaton. They lived in Quebec in the 1850's, on the border to Vt. Sarah died in Maine, but I am looking for confirmation to William W. Whitney's parents. William and Sarah may have gotten divorced. Carlos ended up the Adirondacks, as a guide. He married Eliza Marsh of Crown Point, NY. Carlos left home when he was around 11 years old, and didn't see he mother again until he was about 50 years old.
Looking for birth and marriage information for a 3 generations and running in to various dead ends. All events pre-date the 1880 NYS indecies. Am I missing local resources for Herkimer and Madison counties? (Shubael Lewis, Jesse Lewis, Peter Lewis).
Trying to determine parents for Harvey Pooler b NY c 1810-1812. Census data places Pooler families in Cortland, Delaware, and Cayuga Counties. Another cluster appears in Herkimer County by 1820. So far, I have only searched on Familysearch and Ancestry, but have not targeted NY by way of NTG&B which I recently joined. Am willing to dig for the records and would appreciated any clues offered.
I believe they were protestant. They migrated to Ashtabula Ohio by 1840, then to Dane County WI by 1850. Thank you.
I was just wondering if anyone has had any problem with getting copies of birth/ death certificates from NY State. I had sent for copies in Feb. and haven’t heard anything yet but they did cash my checks.
Am trying to find any information about why my grandmother was spent time at Bedford Hills Reformatory in about 1927/1928. I believe she would have given birth during her time there as well. I have contacted Westchester County archives, NY state archives, Bedford Hills Historical Society to name a few. My last hope is to page through port chester or New Rochelle newspapers to see if her arrest or sentence would have made the papers? I am in Washington State and can request those through inter-library loan. If anyone has a suggestion I would be very grateful!
