New York City 'Middle Road'

I found an ancestors obituary from 1817 in New York City. It indicated the death occurred "in a thicket of woods, opposite the four mile stone on the middle road". Anyone have an idea where that is located today? Thank you.

"Middle Road"
According to the article, today's Fifth Avenue was originally called Middle Road. Hope this helps.
