Use this thread to discuss Finding Births, Marriages, and Deaths in New York, 1780 to 1850, presented by D. Joshua Taylor, MA, MLS, FUGA.

Session Description

Seeking evidence of a birth, marriage, or death in New York State between 1780 and 1850? Without consistent vital records, documenting these events can be a genealogical adventure. Together we explore numerous substitutes and strategies to employ when researching these vital events including religious records, census reports, personal records, and other materials.

Following the money?

My great grandfather was an adirondack guide, based in Franklin County, between 1880 and 1921, guiding hunters to California, Canada, and elsewhere. I have some magazine and newspaper articles, but wondering if there are other sources I should consider. I have censuses, and some into about basic vital stats. Looking for more about his 'employment'

1789 birth

Very interesting presentation. I just inherited a family bible and want to know if NYGB would like a copy of the family information inside. Also, I can find marriage and death of ancestor so I have her maiden name but cannot find anything about birth, approx. 1789, or parents. Census says she was born in New York. Any strategy to figure out what county? Is it possible that the NY is incorrect?
