Join Thomas Ruller from the New York State Archives and professional genealogist Jane E. Wilcox as they discuss Jane’s new book, New York State Archives—A Guide: For Family Historians, Biographers, and Historical Research, published by the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society (NYG&B). Jane will share insights and discoveries gleaned from pouring through hundreds of colonial and State government records held by the Archives. She will also tell some stories of the people she met along the way.

About the Speakers

Jane E. Wilcox serves on the NY State Archives Advisory Committee and the NYG&B’s NY Family History Advisory Committee. A former NYG&B Record editorial board member, Jane speaks at genealogy conferences and institutes. With her company, Forget-Me-Not Ancestry, in Albany, Jane specializes in pre-Civil War New York research. She hosted The Forget-Me-Not Hour podcast, with archives at www.BlogTalkRadio.com/JaneEWilcox. She has a master’s degree in journalism; a bachelor’s degree in history and English literature; and an elementary school teacher’s certification.

Thomas J. Ruller recently retired from his position as New York State Archivist, a role he has held since 2015. An active professional for 35 years, he is the author of several peer-reviewed journal articles and reviews on the use of technology at the Archives and the preservation of records in electronic form. Thomas has been a consultant for several state governments and other organizations focusing on electronic records management and preservation. He remains actively engaged as a steward of the Archives Partnership Trust.
