2009’s Research trip to Albany was a great success. Please view the photos taken during the three days our group spent in the New York State capital.
Several dozen members and friends of the NYG&B travelled to Albany, New York State’s capital, for our biannual Research in Albany program.
Attendees were given orientations to the State Library and State Archives provided by Library and Archives staff members Dr. James Folts, Shawn Purcell, Christine Beauregard, Monica Gray and Keith Swaney.
The Capital District Genealogy Society supplied volunteers to help our group with finding records, working the readers, and information on Albany and its environs.
Mel Wolfgang, Suzanne McVetty, Henry Hoff, and Lauren Maehrlein provided research assistance to those who needed a fresh idea as to where to look next.
Social events dominated the off hours. A gala dinner was held Wednesday evening. In addition to the program registrants, several of our nearby members reconnected with fellow G&Bers over a good meal and a convivial atmosphere. The highlight of the evening was an extremely interesting and entertaining talk, “Born April 21, 1818,” by Bernard Margolis, the New York State Librarian. Following the dinner a contingent of baseball fans headed for the hotel bar to watch the home team clinch the World Series.
The G&B’s premiere hostesses Meriwether Schmid and Charlotte Hix treated the assembled group to a “Wine & Cheese” party on Thursday evening.
Plans are already in the works for our next trip to Albany. If you have upstate research to work on, this is definitely the trip for you.
Many thanks to Peter Van Demark for contributing the following photos.
