The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society seeks an editor for The Record. The current editor, Patricia Law Hatcher, FASG, is retiring at the end of 2010.

Continuously published since 1870, The Record is the second oldest genealogical journal in the country and one of the most distinguished. Published quarterly, it concentrates on people and places connected to New York City, State, and region and features compiled genealogies, solutions to problems, and unique source material.

This volume gathers 37 articles published in the New York Genealogical and  Biographical Society Record  by William J. Hoffman, with a new introduction and armorial index by Francis J. Sypher, Jr. This uniquely authoritative work will be an essential reference for anyone interested in this topic.

Join the NYG&B for a full day at Ellis Island. We’ll take a ferry from Battery Park and spend time with our tour guide, Tom Bernardin, who was a U.S. Parks Service Ranger at Ellis Island. Registrants will be given orientations to the research resources of The Bob Hope Memorial Library and The American Family Immigrant History Center. Space is limited.

As unbelievable as it seems, many individuals who participated in the American Revolution lived past the advent of photography in 1839. Take a step back into the eighteenth century through the photographs and stories of these men and women. Learn about the detective work involved in uncovering these “misplaced” pictures and find out new ways to discover the Revolutionary War generation in your own family.

 Jeff Richman, Historian of the Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, will discuss the ongoing project to locate and identify all the Civil War veterans who are permanent residents of this beautiful locale.
