Instruction for login to NYG&B member's area for access to ProQuest®, HeritageQuest™ and Bulletin Board.

1. At the home page of The New York Genealogical & Biographical Society (www.newyorkfamilyhistory.org,
www.newyorkfamilyhistory.com, www.nyfamilyhistory.org, www.nygbs.com)
login to member's area through login box located on the top left of the page.
Simply fill in your username, password and then click login.
Both the login and password are case sensitive (i.e. any letters that are
uppercase have to be uppercase and any letters that are lowercase have to be
lowercase) and have to be typed in exactly as shown.
2. At NYG&B member's area page, you will see the navigation bar on the top.

2.1 Edit Information
You can edit your information through
this link. You can change your email and password here.
- Your real name (this filed is optional but recommend)
- Your real email (this is required field)
- Fake email (this field is optional. it's used to protect you from spam.)
- Your homepage (this field is optional. please including http://)
- Your location (this filed is optional but recommend. can be city or state)
- Your occupation (this field is optional)
- Your interest (this field is optional. can be surnames researching)
- If yes, your email will be shown every time you post message in bulletin
board. (Fake email will be used if you have one)
- If yes, other members will know when you are online.
- If yes, there will be an email to notify you when someone replies to
the topic you have posted.
- If yes, signature will be included in your message every time you post.
- Time zone: set to your time zone to adjust bulletin board time.
- Signature (optional): The signature will appear at the bottom of your
post.
- Extra info (optional)
- Password: Fill in your password only when you want to change.
- Click Save Changes every time you change your information.
2.2 ProQuest® and HeritageQuest™
Click on either links to connect to ProQuest Database Gateway page. (ProQuest® and HeritageQuest™ are services provided by ProQuest Information and Learning
Company)
To use services from ProQuest, you may want to review the following requirements
for your Internet browser:
- For best results, ProQuest recommend using Microsoft Internet Explorer
version 5.5+, or Netscape 6.02+ The very minimum version of Microsoft Internet
Explorer
5.01 or Netscape Navigator 4.75 can be used.( NOTE: with the minimum browsers
you will not take advantage of all the features of ProQuest.)
- Make sure your browser’s security is set to
medium or medium low with cookie handling set to accept third party cookie

- Make sure your personal security software (Norton Personal Firewall,
Norton Internet Secuirity, Zone Alarm Firewall and etc.) is set to allow
use of ProQuest and HeritageQuest (*.proqust.com, *.umi.com and *.heritagequestonline.com
domains) Please follow the steps

is the same for other firewall programs which is to add proquest.com

as a trusted site.

Click at ProQuest® for New York Times Historical Newspaper.
Click at HeritageQuest™ for census search.
2.3 Bulletin Board
Click at bulletin board link to access member only bulletin board. To access
ProQuest® or HeritageQuest™ from bulletin board, please click at member's
area link to go back to member's area page where you can link to ProQuest® and
HeritageQuest™
You can search messages and users by click at Search Bulletin Board.
2.4 Logout
You can logout from member's area by click at Logout icon.
