This seminar
by Kyle J. Betit was held on Monday, March 19, 2001, 5:30-7:30 p.m at
the The NYG&B Society. It is sponsored by The New York Genealogical and
Biographical Society, The New York Irish History Roundtable, and The Irish
Family History Forum.
This in-depth
two-hour seminar focused on learning about the various types of records
that document ancestors occupying land in Ireland, whether they were landowners,
leasing, or renting. Some of the historical terminology about leases and
freeholds were explained. Mr. Betit explained how an American can access
these Irish land records, and discussed attendees' research questions
and how land records can be useful in answering them.

for members of sponsoring organizations only. Attendance was limited to
35 persons.
The speaker:
Kyle Joseph Betit, is a professional genealogist, author, lecturer, and
publisher of Irish, Canadian, and French research materials. He was co-author
of the 1998 Ireland: A Genealogical Guide, and co-editor of The
Irish at Home and Abroad 1993-1999. He lives in Salt Lake City and
makes frequent research trips to Ireland. His latest book, A Genealogist's
Guide to Discovering Your Irish Ancestors, was published in March
2001 and was available for purchase before and after the March 18th lecture.
